Engineering the Future with Project Lead the Way

JFK 7th grade students in the Technology Exploratory course with Mr. Dembkowski are newly engaged in STEM education through Project Lead the Way (PLTW). Project Lead The Way provides a comprehensive approach to STEM Education. Through activity-, project-, and problem-based curriculum, PLTW gives students a chance to apply what they know, identify problems, find unique solutions, and lead their own learning.

As part of the Automation and Robotics (AR) unit, students trace the history, development, and influence of automation and robotics as they learn about mechanical systems, energy transfer, machine automation, and computer control systems. Students use the VEX Robotics® platform to design, build, and program real-world objects such as traffic lights, toll booths, and robotic arms. Using PLTW curriculum inclusive with the new Chromebook initiative here at JFK, Mr. Dembkowski provides tools to empower students and transform the classroom into a collaboration space where content comes to life.

This newly implemented course (as well as the Design and Modeling course) are funded with grant money from Project Lead the Way and Mass STEM Hub.
